Elemental

Investigating the spectrum of colors in watercolor. Using different color palettes as a mean to explore different worlds, combining expansive with contracted and natural with synthetic.

I’ve aimed to sort these works by color, so you can travel the spectrum as you scroll down!

Red Earth

I used to be quite averse to the color red so this became a little challenge for myself. Painted with smooth synthetic reds with yellow earth and hematite grit layered on top.

Top of the Cliff

A combination of sunset magentas, purples and sky blues filtering through the leaves of the plants around me.

Emerald Grit

This is a message for myself: Part of me feels it isn’t enough, but another part says I don’t need anything else. Because it can be simple and minimal and still be finished. My favorite part in this painting is the thin hallway of black hematite texture in the upper right part of the piece. Painted with powerful synthetic greens, pipestone and hematite.

Desert Amethyst

I started this painting thinking of the shape of a emerald cut gem. Amethyst represents the crown chakra, and the painting is very clear and light to generate the same headspace. Painted with a transparent golden ochre layered on top of a juicy synthetic purple.

7” x 10” watercolor and colored pencil on paper.

Simple Aurora

An exploration in a rich combination of green and purple. The shapes remind me of a blooming lotus and the colors remind me of a night sky. Painted with amazonite and sodalite paired with synthetic purples and blues.
